June 10, 2006 Starting Location: Mojave, CA Ending Location: Under some joshua trees Today's Miles: 11.0 Total Miles: 595.95 Papa Bear gave me a ride out of town this afternoon and I hit the trail with a full load. Seven days of food and six liters of water is HEAVY! Walked through a huge wind farm then made my way down to cross a highway. There I stopped for 30 minutes and talked with a nice truck driver who had stopped on the off ramp. He gave me some cold guava juice and yogurt! June 9, 2006 Starting Location: Mojave, CA Ending Location: Mojave, CA Today's Miles: 0.0 Total Miles: 584.95 The last couple days exhausted me so after much debate I got myself another room here. Most others have done the same. There's a Radio Shack across the street so I went over and picked up a small radio and headphones. I'm excited to have something to block out the incessant nursery rhymes that run through my head all day long.
June 8, 2006 Starting Location: Cottonwood Creek Bridge Ending Location: Mojave, CA Today's Miles: 23.5 Total Miles: 584.95 Woke up last night after the moon had set and saw a shooting star streak across the brightest Milky Way I've ever seen. Two or three of the huge bats were flying around making clicking sounds. Hiked hard today with Speshul and Morgan to try to get to Tehachapi Willow Springs Rd by 4:00. Steel Magnolia was supposed to be there doing some trail magic. We arrived at 3:30 and found a cooler with soda and some fruit left by Steel. A guy named Cuervo was there resting. June 7, 2006 Starting Location: A mound of dirt Ending Location: Cottonwood Creek Bridge Today's Miles: 28.8 Total Miles: 561.45 Got a slow start this morning as my legs were feeling yesterday's push as I made the descent into the Mohave desert and "Hiker Town". Spent the afternoon at Hiker Town with Speshul, Mike, Cap, Morgan, Popsicle, Moose, and a bunch of hens, roosters, kittens, ducks and a dog. One of the roosters chased a snake across the yard and away from the baby chicks. The kittens chased the ducks. At 5:30 I got packed up and started the desert crossing with Speshul, Cap and Mike. June 6, 2006 Starting Location: San Fransicquito Canyon Rd Ending Location: A mound of dirt Today's Miles: 27.4 Total Miles: 532.65 Felt great today and just kept going until the sun disappeared. Spotty clouds kept the temps in the 80's all day long and I wanted to take advantage of it while it lasted. I'm spending my first night alone here surrounded by holes in the ground. I wonder what comes out of them at night.
