Suggestion: Go to Shasta City

Just wanted to drop some info re: Castella, there isn't much there. The P.O. has strange hours, I was walking towards the front door when the Post Master was locking up. He told me to come back at 2:00pm as that's when he'd back from lunch (it was only 10:30am!), he also told me to come back before 4:00pm if I had any monetary transactions as he would close the register at 4:00pm!

My advice is to hitch hike or take the bus from Castella to Mt. Shasta which is a full service town with a health food store, gear store, movie theatre and several awesome restaurants.

i went to shasta city too, and had a nice zero there, but hitching back took forever. after giving up on trying to hitch out of shasta city (after about 2 hours), i took the bus to dunsmuir, and tried to hitch from there, only to be harassed by a cop who ultimately agreed to take me to the trailhead himself (after frisking me first)!

That's crazy! (I also thought there was a bus that went from Castella to Dunsmuir and Shasta? I could be wrong).

yeah, can't remember the reason why i didn't get a ride back with you guys though...

the bus only goes as far south as dunsmuir... seems to me it was because there's a county line there, and castella is just inside the next county?

it's frustrating because it's only a couple miles to the trailhead from dunsmuir, and i could have walked it, but there's NO frontage road to walk on- only the train tracks, and i didn't want to do that...
