Has anyone used a wood burning stove on their thru-hike? What were your experiences? Could you find enough 'fuel'?

I didn't use one but I hiked with people using the esbits stoves and it took them for ever to cook their food. Once some people I hiked with ran out of alcohol and had to use wood, kinda funny but it was also slow. I think they are very similar to wood stoves in that regard and both leave soot on your pot. If you want to stay light make your own alcohol stove and get a little kids juice bottle for a fuel holder. If your stove is well designed you will not use much fuel at all.
While you're in the Sierras and anywhere above tree line you'll be constantly looking for twigs and stuff to use as fuel, you might end up carrying backups just in case your next site is treeless. People will laugh at you for carrying all those sticks.... j/k Depending on the year it might rain alot also, that would be no good for a wood stove.
