There are a lot of different options for carrying water, so I thought I would start a thread to discuss your preferences and methods.

Hydration Bladder/Tube - I used one of these early on. I liked the easy access it gave me to water, and I think this helped with hydration. I did not like the fact that it was difficult to refill (the bladder had to be completely removed from my pack to effectively refill it) and, I had to be really careful because if my pack rolled over onto the tube, water would leak everywhere. (for this reason I think it's a good idea to purchase the bite valve cover, this also helps keep the bite valve clean).

Nalgene Bottle - I didn't use one of these because they're heavy, and I don't like to drink out of the wide mouth, but some people like them.

Sigg- These are the aluminum "fuel" type bottles, some people also use them for water. They have the opposite issue of the nalgene's as they have a super narrow mouth opening making them difficult to properly clean and potentially difficult to fill.

Gatorade Bottle- This is what I saw most people using. They're great for a number of reasons, for one they're cheap and readily available, easy to replace, light weight, and they just work.

Next question: Where does it go?

About half way through my hike I began to question why I was carrying all of this heavy water on my back?!?!

I then bought some water bottle holsters which I attached to my hip belt and to my shoulder straps. What a difference that made! I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner. Not only was all the weight off my back, but I didn't have to take off my pack (and empty it's contents) just to refill, or take drink!.
