One kesson I learned the hard way: Know the terms and conditions of your health insurance plan before you leave. I suggest contacting the company and ask specific questions about coverage and responsibilities.
I went to the emergency room in Lake Tahoe. Because I failed to get the treatment approved first and the hospital was out of network, the coverage was denied and I was stuck was a $3,000 bill for having a doctor tell me to take a couple of zero days.
