hi all-

i have a pocketmail that served me well on my hike last year. it now wants to hike again, but i unfortunately can't in 07, so i told it that i would try to find another hikers' pack it can ride in. i don't expect to be able to hike the cdt until 08 at the earliest, probably 09 more realistically, and i think there will probably be a better mobile email solution by then (fingers crossed) so i don't feel the need to hold onto this thing.

you'll have to buy your own subscription to the service, but if you want the pocketmail (or, as i like to call it, "fuckitmail") device itself, first come first served.

and maybe next year you can pass it along to another needy hiker, if it's not completely obsolete by then!!

 Girl Scout,
I wouldn't mind giving it a try! I'm starting a thru on the PCT on April 12 and the only electronics that I'm taking is my digital camera. Email me.

hi geek

just to be sure, you realize that you have to buy a 6-month subscription to the pocketmail service, which costs like $100 or so?

Did PocketMail drop the 3 month service agreements ??

well, i dunno- maybe they do have 3-month plans, but if you're going to use pocketmail for your pct thru-hike, you're going to want the 6-month plan, and you'll want to wait until april to start it.

Here's the link to the service agreements...

I agree you would need the 6 month service agreement.
What a generous offer girlscout I hope someone takes you up on it :)

note the stipulation on the 3-month plan:

"*For first-time customers: the 3 month plan is available exclusively through select retailers when you purchase a PocketMail Composer."

so you wouldn't be able to do a 3-month plan with my pocketmail anyway...

I also have an unused pocketmail device I am willing to donate to a hiker who wants to buy a subscription plan for it.

hi everyone

hey geek, i'm still planning to send out this pocketmail, but there's a potential problem... i heard that it might be a hassle to get this unit re-registered to a different person with a new account, even though i've managed to completely re-initialize it to its factory state (ie, i removed all of my personal info from it). in other words, the pocketmail service still has this unit registered to me, and they may think that if someone else tries to re-register it, that it might be a stolen unit or something.

i'll try to call pocketmail and see if there's a way around this...
